What should I do if I have a burst pipe?
The most important thing you’ll need to know is the location of the internal stopcock if the leak is coming from inside your house. The valve is normally located underneath your kitchen sink, or in a cupboard. You should make sure that nothing obstructs your access to the stopcock. As soon as you discover a leak or burst pipe, turn the water off and don’t switch it back on until a plumber has fixed it. You’ll need to switch off your central heating too as the water from the leak could be coming from the central heating system.

Why would water be pouring into the tundish?
A tundish is an emergency pipe that allows the water to escape if there is a problem with the pressure relief valve or expansion vessel. The tundish will only leak if the valve or expansion vessel fail.

What is classed as an emergency?
When you see water coming through your ceiling or smell gas.

If you see water coming through the ceiling, then turn off the internal stopcock!

If you smell gas, open all windows and doors and avoid turning on any lights, and if possible, turn the gas supply off at the meter.
